‘Real Housewives’ notes: Teresa Giudice comments; ‘Orange County’ peek

A ratings success!

So what’s making headlines at the moment in the “Real Housewives” world? There’s quite a bit really, in between the success of the new season of “New Jersey” along with what is happening when it comes to “Beverly Hills” currently filming its third season.

Record ratings – Let’s start with some good news for the “Jersey” show. Despite it actually premiering against Teresa Giudice on “The Celebrity Apprentice,” it set a Bravo record for the most-watched season premiere of a show ever with 3 million people watching. (The record for an actual episode goes to “Atlanta,” who had over 4 million viewers for the season 3 finale back in 2011.) In the 18-49 demographic, the show posted an impressive 1.5 rating — not far off of “Apprentice’s” 2.2 and higher than a new episode of “Harry’s Law” airing in primetime on NBC.

Teresa’s cookbook defense – Teresa is probably going to be spending most of this season defending herself against various comments by her fellow castmates, and she kicked things off courtesy of a brand-new entry on her Bravo blog explaining how she was really trying to just be funny by comparing Caroline Manzo to the Olive Garden in her cookbook (a scene that we have already watched at length courtesy of last year’s finale along with Sunday’s premiere):

“As for the jokes in my cookbooks… I’ve always had them in all of my books. Funny books sell better. Bethenny’s humor helped her books sell, the Skinny B—h authors’ jokes helped their books sell, and I think one of the reasons Skinny Italian was so successful is because I put my personality in it. I joke about myself A LOT and I joked about my life, which includes my friends and family … I joked about the O.C. Housewives, Atlanta Housewives, Andy Cohen, US Weekly, America’s Next Top Model, and a million other things. My cookbooks are not for 5-star chefs. They’re for my fans and regular housewives, who I happen to think are pretty hilarious themselves. I wanted my books to read like a fun novel, not a boring cookbook.”

Ultimately, the primary mistake that Teresa made here was thinking that everyone has the same sense of humor as she does. Even if she takes it to be lighthearted and funny, she also has to prepare for the possibility that not everyone else will take it the same way.

“Beverly Hills” news – Finally, we’ll close off with the unconfirmed reports coming out (via Radar Online) that Yolanda Hadid, the fourth wife of legendary music producer David Foster, is going to be a cast member for season 3.

The Hadid rumors have been going for quite some time, and there already is a pre-established connection here to the show — Yolanda was previously married to a good friend of Lisa Vanderpump in Mohamed Hadid, so it will not be a situation where if this rumor is true, Yolanda (who is best known as a model) will be thrown into the fray holding on for dear life.

Finally, you can check out a new sneak peek for Tuesday night’s new episode of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” below.
