‘American Idol’ notes: Haley Reinhart, Jessica Sanchez, and the top 6

Coming May 22!

For Sunday’s edition of “American Idol” notes, we have a few performances from Haley Reinhart to go along with quite a bit of news related to the remaining six contestants on the competition this season. Let’s just hope you have some time to check out some of the videos below!

Haley’s performance – Haley Reinhart was a special guest at the 94.1 FM Pet-A-Palooza event in Las Vegas Saturday, and we already have some sympathy for her having to go out and perform in the incredibly hot weather.

Haley performed a good bit of music during her 20-minute set at the event, including new single “Free” along with another standout track from “Listen Up!” (hitting stores on May 22) in “Hit the Ground Running.” The best thing about Haley’s live performances is that she always seems like she’s having a good time on stage no matter what … and there are only a select group of “Idol” contestants that can really say this.

Confirmation on the Top 6 theme – Just in case there was any confusion as to what Jessica Sanchez, Phillip Phillips, and the rest of the top 6 will be performing, Nigel Lythgoe has clarified courtesy of a post on Twitter.

Here is what we are looking at: the contestants will each be performing a song from the Queen catalog, and they will be also getting a chance to rock out to a song of their own choosing. This is really the first time that the artists have really had this sort of freedom in several weeks.

Really, this theme is smart for a number of reasons. It still gives Skylar Laine an opportunity to sing country, and Jimmy Iovine can achieve his goal of trying to give Jessica a song that suits her age better than what she has performed lately.

Enter TMZ Live – The “Idol” stars all taped a segment with TMZ on Friday for this Thursday’s result show, and they also appeared on TMZ Live the same day … where they all appeared to be rather afraid of talking too much about the experience. The one exception? Phillip, who joked that he walked in front of the website’s headquarters all of the time without being captured by the paparazzi.

The “Idols” show up near the end of the video below at around the 36:00 mark.

As always, check back soon for more of the latest “Idol” news!
