‘American Idol’ notes: Kris Allen, Scotty McCreery, and Carrie Underwood

May 22 is the album date.

For the April 21 edition of “American Idol” notes, we are going to be talking all about winners — at least when it comes to people who won their respective seasons. Sound fun? Let’s hope so, since all of them have quite a bit on their plate.

Kris Allen surprised at Colton Dixon’s exit – While we are still sitting around and waiting with bated breath for “The Vision of Love” to become a hit, Kris Allen is reacting to the news about what happened on “Idol” Thursday night Colton Dixon.

Speaking after the show to Yahoo! Music, Allen proclaimed that he was as stunned as anyone to see Colton walk out the door, but he also thinks that he is going to be doing just fine moving forward in his career:

“I’m very surprised, I thought he was going to go to the finale. I think he’s done the right things throughout the show … I’m not worried for Colton. I think he’s great; he knows exactly what he wants to do.”

Also in the video you can hear Kris discuss his plans for touring, his strategy for the remaining contestants to do more “Kanye covers,” and some of the remixes that are coming out for his single.

More on Carrie’s “dark side” – For those of you wanting to hear more about Carrie’s upcoming album “Blown Away” dropping May 1, know this — it is going to be moving into some rather emotional territory rather quickly.

Three of the darker songs on the album in lead single “Good Girl,” the title track, and “Two Black Cadillacs” are going to be featured on the earlier portion of the disc, and the singer explained the decision to do this in a new interview with The Country Vibe:

“Well it wasn’t intentional to have the dark stuff all up front, but to me, I couldn’t split those songs up. I couldn’t sandwich them in between two like happy … type songs. It would have hurt me to do that.”

“Blown Away” will be blowing into stores on May 1, three weeks before Allen’s “Thank You Camellia” arrives.

A few minor notes:

-Per Mjsbigblog and the group’s official Facebook page, Scotty McCreery will be appearing at the Vermont State Fair on September 8.

-The winner and runner-up of this season will perform on “The Today Show” May 31 as a part of their Summer Concert Series.

-In the video below from “Access Hollywood,” Taylor Hicks talks about being back at “Idol,” getting his Las Vegas residency, and how people think he looks like George Clooney.
