After she had such a key role both throughout and at the end of “Game of Thrones” season 1, it’s understandable that a few people here and there may actually have some feelings of disappointment over how little we have seen of Emilia Clarke’s Dany so far. She has dragons … but there hasn’t been much for the dragons to do. (She was not even a part of the April 15 episode.)
Thankfully, Sunday night’s new installment “Garden of Bones” will at least mark a change to some of this — even if we still do not know the role of her newfound pets is going to change. In moving through the Red Waste, she and her Dothraki army finally run into civilization, though the real question here at the moment is whether or not civilization wanted to run into them.
In addition to Dany, Joffrey is also making a triumphant return this week to torture his wife-to-be over Robb Stark’s “treason,” and Littlefinger is going to be paying Renly Baratheon a visit at the request of Tyrion (which thus removes him from the realm of women in various stages of undress for the first significant stretch of time all year — that is, unless he brings some of his “ladies” along for the ride).
So far, “Thrones” has done an impeccable job when it comes to balancing characters from the first season while introducing new faces to the mix — the real question is if it can keep it up over the remaining seven episodes this season.
