Just in case everyone out there simply cannot wait until Wednesday night’s new episode of “American Idol” to see what is being performed, Ray Chew and the band has just sent out the full list.
There are some interesting songs on here for both the modern hits (the “now” part of the theme) and the soul classics (the “then”) — however, we really don’t want to have to sit through the millionth rendition of “Fallin'” by Alicia Keys. There are too many repeat performances on the list here, in particular when it comes to the fact that Haley Reinhart covered two of these songs just last season. (Add this to Lady Gaga’s “You and I” last week, and there’s three!) If you include other singing competitions in here, “You Got It Bad” and “Bad Romance” are the only two modern songs we haven’t heard covered on a live show.
Thanks to the theme, there is some ambiguity here when it comes to who is singing what. We’re hoping that Phillip Phillips is either doing a stripped-down version of “Bad Romance” or a slow ballad by Usher; meanwhile, Jessica Sanchez will make our day if she doubles up between “A Change is Gonna Come” and “Born This Way.” The only thing we feel pretty secure about? That Joshua Ledet is probably singing Fantasia since he may very well be her biggest fan on the planet.
“In The Midnight Hour” by Wilson Pickett
“A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke
“September” by Earth Wind and Fire
“Son of a Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield
“Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding
“Heard it Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye
“Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye
“No One” by Alicia Keys
“I Believe” by Fantasia
“Rolling In The Deep” by Adele
“U Got it Bad” by Usher
“Born This Way” by Lady Gaga
“Fallin'” by Alicia Keys
“Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga
Who do you want to sing these songs on the list, and are all of the repeat performances bugging you?
