For the first time on “Dancing with the Stars,” there was a results show that actually contained a performance necessary in terms of the competition. Thanks to the “dance duel,” the bottom two contestants were forced into squaring off in a battle royale to see who would ultimately end up going home.
Early on, things certainly did not look good for Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff. They’ve been in the bottom two twice already in this competition, and they had the lowest scores of the night Monday. Things got even worse as soon as it was revealed that Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus — who he may have been able to compete with in a duel — were declared safe. The same went for Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Ultimately, Gavin did end up taking part in the duel, and he ended up having to square off against someone who became the newest victim of performing first on the show — Jaleel White. He and Kym Johnson had a solid dance, but it’s also possible that some of the tabloid headlines hurt his reputation and his voting audience in the past few weeks.
Luckily for Jaleel, negative headlines do not determine the winner of the dance duel. Gavin has been the weakest in the competition for some time, and even he probably knew he was in trouble the moment he found out he was in the bottom. Meanwhile, Jaleel gets to live on — and will not likely have to perform at the start of the show again.
What did you think about the results as decided by America, and of the judges’ pick to send Gavin home?
