‘American Idol’ preview: Theme for Jessica Sanchez’s redemption is…

Will she recover?

Usually, “American Idol” is traditionally pretty good about letting everyone in on their theme for the upcoming show at some point over the weekend — however, this time around they waited a little bit longer.

According to TVLine, it was finally announced on Monday that the top 7 will be doing two performances, each with a specific theme:

-First, contestants will choose a modern #1 hit from 2000 up to today. There’s no limitation here, of course so long as the song can be cleared.

-Following this up, the singers will then tackle a song from a much earlier era — the golden age of soul — for a flashback performance.

At this point, it’s clear that this performance is going to be imperative for everyone since the save is now used up. However, Jessica Sanchez is likely going to enter the week with a bit of a chip on her shoulder now that she had to rely on the judges to save her from elimination. She is also likely to receive a huge upswing of fans for at least the next week or two as a result.

Meanwhile, Elise Testone is probably the most vulnerable singer left. If she the one who should go? Probably not, since Hollie Cavanagh has been consistently weaker in recent weeks. However, this is a show about fanbases at the end of the day, and Hollie was not even in the bottom three this past week while Elise nearly went out the door.

What do you think of this week’s theme, and do you have any ideas for some of the contestants?
