‘American Idol’ notes: Jessica Sanchez, Haley Reinhart, and Lauren Alaina

Can a nickname be to blame?

A new week of “American Idol” notes is here, and we are beginning with someone who has been front and center in the headlines over the past few days: Jessica Sanchez.

In a new post on his Twitter, Howard Stern made a rather interesting suggestion after Sanchez’s near-elimination Thursday that her nickname may actually be a reason why she was forced to take the “save” in order to stay in the competition:

“Reason that girl almost voted off idol: constant yapping about alter ego. If she says bee bee chez one more time America will vomit.”

Is Howard really onto something here? We personally don’t see a nickname having much to do with anything, but Sanchez does likely need to work some more on trying to establish her personality in a way that showcases her having more fun versus just working so hard for most of her life. There’s no question that she’s among the most talented (if not the most talented) singer left in the competition, and the hype from the save (as said in our rankings this week) is probably going to be keeping her safe for at least another week or two.

Haley’s parade performance – For an artist, parade performances are some of the hardest things to execute (just ask Scotty McCreery). With that in mind, Haley Reinhart seemed to do a rather stellar job performing at the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington DC this weekend.

To Haley’s credit, she was lucky to have a parade that allowed her the opportunity to actually perform her new single “Free,” and she did so aboard a giant blue float that could have very well swallowed her alive.

Lauren Alaina celebrates prom – If nothing else, you have to give Lauren some credit for being dedicated to her music. She actually missed her own senior prom this weekend in order to open a show with Sugarland in Kentucky — but the good news for her is that she did manage to have a bit of a celebration all her own.

In the video below, you can see what may actually be a sweeter moment for Lauren (who has a new shorter ‘do) than anything we saw on “Idol” during her entire season. She randomly picks some guy out of the audience and dances with him on stage to a Lady Antebellum concert. After the show, Lauren even tweeted that she went and crashed a nearby prom to get a taste of that, as well.

As always, check back for more of the latest “Idol” news!
