In Sunday’s edition of “American Idol” notes, we have a little bit of everything — from debuting new music to talking about new music to a current contestant getting set to perform some music this summer. (A good bit of repetition there, no?)
Kris Allen debuts “Love Me Not” – On Kris’ upcoming “Thank You Camellia” (which hits stores on May 22), there is going to be one duet in “Love Me Not” featuring Meiko. Thankfully, we have a new live version of the song for your listening pleasure.
We wish the video quality here was a little bit clearer, but the song certainly sounds pleasant enough, and we love the harmonies here between Kris and Meiko. Her voice also manages to transport the song from something firmly in the adult-contemporary market into a bit more of an indie rock jam.
Thankfully, it’s not going to be long until we see Allen back on “Idol” again — we should have some more news from his camp leading up to his return to the show Thursday night, where he will be performing his lead single “The Vision of Love.”
Carrie talks “Blown Away” – Three weeks before Allen’s disc hits the market (and two weeks before we see Adam Lambert’s “Trespassing” in stores”), Carrie Underwood will be launching her fourth studio album. While we’ve already heard plenty about her lead single “Good Girl,” the season 4 winner is now revealing that many tracks on the album — including her title song — are going to take more of a darker turn than some of her past music.
Speaking to Billboard about the “Blown Away” track, Carrie proclaimed that the song is so poignant and powerful that it was worthy of having the entire album built around it:
“I’ve never been so excited to hear a demo as I was that one. I got chills…we needed to find things that would fit with this [song], because if I found 13 other tracks that didn’t match with that one, I’d start over and keep that one.”
“Good Girl” has already made a splash on country radio, and it is also starting now to take hold on the Hot AC chart, which helped her to launch a global smash in “Before He Cheats.”
Elise at the top 10 photo shoot – Over the course of the weekend, there is a bit of a season 11 reunion going on as the three previously-eliminated contestants — Erika Van Pelt, Heejun Han, and DeAndre Brackensick — have all returned to California in order to do a photo shoot to promote the upcoming “Idol” tour happening this summer.
We’ve posted the photo of Elise Testone to the left (via @Idol_Insider) in particular since it looks like she is stuck in the middle of a photographer sandwich, and it is also one of the more vulnerable shots from was otherwise a pretty fun and goofy shoot.
There’s no official start date for the tour yet, but if tradition holds we can probably expect it to kick off in late June or early July (which is just enough time for the “Idols” to have a bit of a break before they start up rehearsals.
As always, stay tuned for more of the latest “Idol” news!
