If you think back to our review of “American Idol’s” Wednesday night performance show, you will recall that we were none too excited about what Hollie Cavanagh did with her rendition of P!nk’s “F—in’ Perfect.” Why? While the vocals were pretty strong, Hollie really didn’t capture the pain and the emotion of the lyrics.
With this in mind, we were thrilled to see what girl-duo Indie and Pixie did on “The Voice” this weekend. While Hollie probably has the edge when it come to actual vocal talent, these two had a greater sense of what they were actually supposed to do with their voices. It was poignant, there was good chemistry, and the excitement factor was admittedly a little bit higher thanks solely to the fact that there are so few strong duos who actually audition for these shows.
All four coaches recognized the potential here (especially with Little Mix helping girl groups make a comeback), but the theme of girl power here continued with Indie and Pixie ultimately deciding to go with Jessie J. Hopefully, they will end up faring better than some duos have in the past on “The Voice” USA — the last pair to make it to the live shows was eliminated fairly in the live rounds after Cee Lo Green stuck them with one of the hokiest song choices known to man.
What did you think of this audition, and was this the way that P!nk’s song was supposed to be performed from your vantage point?
