Fans of daytime soaps already know that the genre is hanging on by a threat, and when NBC pulls something like this, it really only makes us want to write a series of frowny faces down rather than an actual article.
According to a new report from Soap Opera Digest, the following actors have been let go from “Days of Our Lives” as a part of a massive shake-up behind the scenes that includes some new head writers coming on board:
-Matthew Ashford (Jack)
-Patrick Muldoon (Austin)
-Christie Clark (Carrie)
-Sarah Brown (Madison)
The only silver lining here? That these cuts were not apparently made in any sort of last-ditch effort to save a struggling show, but rather the reinvigorate what is already here with some new material for the characters staying put.
The folks at NBC are likely well aware that “Days” needs to continue to keep viewers interested — ABC is still considering letting go of its only remaining soap in “General Hospital,” and the only other network holding firm to the more-expensive alternative to talk shows is CBS courtesy of “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
