On “American Idol” Thursday night, we bid adieu to a contestant in DeAndre Brackensick who ended up suffering a rather cruel fate. He was eliminated after performing first for two out of the past three weeks, and after some contestants (in particular Hollie Cavanagh) gave performances that were criticized more by the judges.
As for what DeAndre has to say about the experience as a whole, we have some highlights straight from the conference call with reporters:
On harsh criticism from Jimmy Iovine – “I have nothing but respect for him. Even if it did come off like that, he kind of drove me to prove him wrong. Anything he said to me helped improved me in the long run.”
On who he was talking to before his “sing for your life” performance – “I was talking to my sister, she was trying. I was telling her there’s no reason to cry because I accomplished so much. Why be sad for the things I’ve done.”
On the advantages of being under 18 in this competition – “We have different call times … it was kind of nice, it made things a little easier being a minor.”
On who he’s most excited to tour with – “Everyone has their fun moments. It’s just going to be a fun experience all around because we’re so close … I really want people to come watch to show and see it in person how individual everyone is. You can’t compare [anyone to anyone else].”
On his reaction to being eliminated – “This vote was bittersweet, because I thought I did a good job … even if it did happen, it happened. I really can’t explain the feelings I had, it was a kind of numbness.”
On meeting Eric Benet – “That was amazing, that was the highlight of my entire experience. He’s a big influence to me.”
On what it will be like going to his prom – “It’s going to be somewhat weird, because I’m so used to being busy, but I think it’ll be easy to slip back in … hopefully this will be a nice little break and then I’ll be busy the rest of my life.”
Are you going to miss DeAndre? If nothing else, we will give him credit for having one of the best attitudes and some of the best responses we’ve heard during conference calls all season.
