We really do have quite a bit going on at the moment in the world of “American Idol,” but we’re going to try to pack in as many stories as possible in this Friday edition of the “notes.”
Adam at the NewNowNext Awards – The broadcast for the 2012 ceremony (which airs Monday night on Logo TV) taped Thursday, and Adam Lambert had a rather big role in the overall event. He performed the title track from his album “Trespassing,” and also made his presence felt on the show’s red carpet.
In the video below, you can hear Adam talk a bit about the album (which hits stores on May 15), but he also talks about what it was like meeting Elton John at an Oscar viewing party for charity earlier this year:
“It was really great. He is so down to earth and he has such a dirty sense of humor.”
Adam also said that there was really no other title he considered for the album other than “Trespassing,” mostly because it suited the vibe of what he wanted to do so well.
Haley’s National Anthem – We first wrote earlier this week about Haley Reinhart performing the National Anthem at the Detroit Tigers’ opening day game Thursday, and we admit we were scared for her. It’s not because we were doubting her talent, but we know that the National Anthem is the one song that every music critic out there loves to flame if something goes wrong. (Look at Christina Aguilera … or The Fray … or Steven Tyler … or Lauren Alaina.)
Thankfully, Haley did a pretty great job with the Anthem, opting to keep it traditional rather than throwing some additional vocal theatrics on it like we have seen some artists do to great criticism. This was a big risk for her to take in opting to perform the song, and it looks like it paid off. (Check out the video below via Mjsbigblog.)
Kelly Clarkson’s “Duets” premiere – In what is really to us a bit of a surprise, Kelly Clarkson’s new series “Duets” is actually going to be premiering a little bit earlier than we expected. Why? It’s first episode is going to launch Thursday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, literally just one day after “Idol” wraps up season 11. Is this ABC’s way of trying to capitalize on the “Idol” audience while they are still assembled? Maybe, but this show will also be up against “So You Think You Can Dance.”
“Duets” also features some other advisers from “The Voice” — including Robin Thicke and Lionel Richie — along with Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland.
Jennifer Hudson returns – In addition to James Durbin coming back on “Idol” next week for the results show (where he will perform new single “Higher Than Heaven”), we also now know that we will be seeing more of Jennifer Hudson, as well.
However, Hudson’s not going it alone — she will have some company courtesy of Rick Ross and Ne-Yo.
As always, stay tuned for more “Idol” news!
