For Thursday morning’s edition of “American Idol” notes, we are looking almost entirely at the world of season 10 — mostly because these people are all doing a pretty fantastic job at staying active.
Pia’s sympathetic side – It’s fair at this point to draw some pretty strong comparisons between Pia Toscano and Hollie Cavanagh. While the former was probably the stronger singer of the two, both were criticized for weeks by the press for doing ballad after ballad — and when they finally sped it up, they were criticized again anyway.
In a post on Twitter after the show Wednesday, Pia clearly drew plenty of comparisons herself:
For some extra irony, remember that last year Pia went home a matter of days after working with Gwen Stefani (even if at the point it was only from a fashion standpoint). Hollie? Well … she and Gwen sat down to have a chat during a mentoring session this week.
James promises something big – In between Kellie Pickler tonight and Kris Allen in two weeks (not to mention Adam Lambert coming up later), we don’t want anyone to forget about James Dubin … and neither does James.
Durbin himself posted a message on the social-network site explaining that this performance will not be ordinary in any shape or form:
“Me (and my band) are so pumped for next week!! We can’t wait to perform for you once again on the Idol stage!! We got a real surprise :)”
Scotty’s strong sales – We’ll close with just yet another sign of Scotty McCreery’s domination on a grand scale. Following his “Idol” performance last week and the ACM Awards, the season 10 champ’s “Clear As Day” reportedly jumped over 150% to sell more than 16,000 copies in the past week.
With 997,000 copies sold, Scotty’s the best-selling “Idol” artist for a debut album since season 7. Impressive, no?
As always, check back for more “Idol” news!
