ITA. Gibbs IS NCIS! He is the man in charge, and the rest revolve around his sun. I love all the characters and even like when there is a ‘centric’ episode about individuals….Tony, Tim, Ellie, Abby, Ducky. All of them are AWESOME. I’m enjoying this season so much, even more so than last year when the poor writers did a great job even after being thrown in the lurch by a certain selfish departure. They did the best they could and STILL managed to keep the show #1 in the WORLD. Such a great show…I know it will end some day but I’m hoping for 20+ years of NCIS!!

Well said!! I thought I was alone in thinking that McGee had been pushed to the forefront as Gibbs unofficial second and Tony had been pushed to the background as the inept comic relief. I am starting to think either the writers or Mark Harmon have something against Michael Weatherly. It’s an injustice to the fans, the show and the character of Tony Dinozzo.

I’m fine with Gibbs being Gibbs. It was SuperDuper Ninja Chick that ruined Tony.

I would love to see a Vance and Tony episode too where Vance would actually have to rely on and show faith in Tony’s skills. It could be interesting to see an episode where these two had to work closely together. Rocky Carroll and Michael Weatherly are both interesting actors when they get some drama. I don’t have any hope anymore however, that this will ever happen. TPTB no longer seem interested in Tony’s character unless it is a fluff moment or episode. Vance is ALWAYS paired with Gibbs when there is a Vance episode.

I agree. As a Tony fan I’ve come to expect disappointment. The writers seem to go out of their way this season to either write him as inconsequential or as some light weight piece of “comic” fluff. Every week it seems to be another installment of the super and most noble of all Gibbs show. The purpose of nearly everything that occurs seems designed to flatter or feature Gibbs. I too no longer wait in excitement for Tuesday night. It’s turned to dread. If Tony continues to be the insignificant joke of a character I too think it’s time for me to go. It IS sad. I used to love this show and ALL of it’s characters. I can’t stand Gibbs anymore because I’m so tired of the over exposure of his holier than thou storylines while my favorite (and formerly important character) now seems to have a “comic” cameo moment and then it’s back to drama and danger for Gibbs, McGee (who the writers seem to be pushing forward), or Bishop.

You hit the nail on the head. I have NCIS Seasons 1-10 on DVD and the interpersonal stuff is gone or nearly gone. There used to be so many touching moments between Tony and Ziva or Abby and McGee or Gibbs and any one of the team members. The closest thing we’ve had to that is the time when Gibbs and Bishop were having the long overdue conversation about why he was giving her a pass on all her dumb mistakes. I too watch JAG and thoroughly enjoy it on DVD.

Glasberg and TPTB said in the video “Finding Bishop” that they made changes to the show on purpose. The Bishop character was supposed to be very different from either Kate or Ziva. They wanted to change the show. Well they did change it in oh so many ways. The question I have is, “When you finally reached number one drama show in the world, why do you want to make major changes?” That doesn’t seem to be a very smart move. I have to give it to them that they finally realized that not mentioning Ziva for over a year was a mistake but what about the rest of their “magical” changes?

I agree that every show has been about Gibbs in a way that it never was before This year we had the show centered on Ducky and last year we had the Admiral’s Daughter centered on Tony. In previous years we have had shows centered on Ziva, McGee or Abby but now it’s Gibbs all the time. Mark Harmon signed a new contract at the end of Season 10 . Maybe this is part of his contract. Gibbs has always been the main character but in the past the other members of the team got center stage every once in a while. In the past I told you that I thought that the others would get their turn but now I’m beginning to think that maybe you are right. It may now be the “nothing but Gibbs, Gibbs all the time” show.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve always loved the show and all its characters, but I have to say I now watch it purely in the hope of having a Tony ep as you describe above, and rather than watching each episode with great anticipation I now pretty much expect to be disappointed and am turning to other shows such as Rizzoli & Isles, Castle and even old episodes of JAG for my entertainment kicks – something with a bit of emotion and excitement, where the writers make me care about the characters and what happens to them. And despite my love for Michael Weatherly should Tony have another episode where he’s fretting about cats, chops or casseroles I might just be tempted to throw in the towel as far as the show is concerned altogether. So sad……
