I don’t agree that ‘The Voice’ would have had as much success as Idol back in the day if they started at the same time. The emphasis on the Voice is to give the ‘mentors’ as much screen time as possible with little time for the contestants. It is the a show to showcase Blake Shelton.
Where I think Idol has gone wrong is that they are going for the “Star Power” in the judges and less about the contestants. When the camera focuses more on JLo than the contestant singing, you aren’t going to get a lot of interest in the contestant. When the only ‘Star’ was Paula Abdul. We didn’t know Simon Cowell or Randy Jackson at the time so the contestants were able to shine.
Just my thoughts.
