With Heejun Han gone, some of the fun has been sapped out of “American Idol” this season — and we can only hope that some of the remaining singers are going to bring some sort of genuine entertainment value to the stage. After all, the theme for this week is songs from the 1980s!
We don’t know much about the song choices yet unfortunately, but Colton Dixon has been teasing one thing that we can expect to see during Wednesday night’s performance show — a new hairdo! That’s right, the man is pulling an Erika Van Pelt and shaking things up. Will it hurt him? We don’t really think so — unlike Erika (who never really had much of a base), Colton’s got a legion of diehard fans already in his corner. the only thing that could hurt him is if this hair change leads to some bad ’80s poof that was stuck in a time capsule never to see the light of day until aliens visit the earth.
As for other surprises, we do finally know for sure that there will be a results show performance by an “Idol” alum this week — but it will be from Kellie Pickler rather than Kelly Clarkson, who was heavily rumored to be taping the show last week. Picker first confirmed the news via Twitter:
“…I’LL BE SINGING ON THE STAGE THAT IT ALL STARTED ON, AMERICAN IDOL!! YEEE-HAW!! :) :) :)”
As for some predictions, there are really three performers remaining in the top 8 desperate for some comeback performance, and we might as well group them together rather than talking about the individually — DeAndre Brackensick, Hollie Cavanagh, and Skylar Laine. They have each given some great performances, but for whatever reason (whether it be vocal inconsistency or tackling too many ballads) they have started to fall to the back of the pack. We’re not sure what order they will go in, but at the moment these three seem to be the ones almost certain to go leading up to the top five.
Who do you think is poised to shine with this theme, and who needs to step it up the most in order to stick around?
