‘American Idol’ notes: Kris Allen’s ‘The Vision of Love’ music video peek

May 22 is the album date.

We’ve been rocking out to Kris Allen’s new song “The Vision of Love” for quite some time now, and now we have some welcome news to go along with it in our afternoon “American Idol” notes — a first look at the music video for the track!

The video is going to officially premiere Wednesday on VEVO, but “The Insider” presented a look behind the scenes today that showed off some additional details.

The video is about overcoming adversity, and will feature everyone from bullying victims to those just struggling with issues related to self-esteem. It’s a nice departure for Kris, largely since there are a good many artists out there who really try not to make any sort of message at all in their videos. (It would have been rather easy for Kris to just stick a love interest in here and called it a day.) Aesthetically, the video is not necessarily the most innovative thing we’ve ever seen, but it’s also not supposed to — it’s supposed to be real, and we’re feeling that based on what little footage there is here.

In the midst of some of the clip’s tender moments, there’s also some of Allen’s trademark humor — including him messing with some of his actors.

Are you excited to see the video in full?

Update: For those wanting more of Allen, here’s a 20-second clip of the singer performing “The Vision” at 35,000 feet as a part of a promotion with Southwest Airlines.
