Scotty McCreery may have become a giant country star in just a few short months as his debut album ‘Clear As Day’ reached platinum status, toured with country legend, Brad Paisley and was just named ‘New Artist of the Year’ by the Academy of Country Music, but his overnight success has not deterred the young singer from focusing on other important aspects of his life outside of music.
McCreery submitted all of his college applications earlier this year with the rest of the hopefuls to try and get into the university of his choice. The ‘American Idol’ winner was accepted to a few different college programs, but he decided to keep it local and will be attending North Carolina State University – the same school his father went to.
Entertainment Weekly spoke to the Director of admissions, Thomas Griffin about McCreery attending the college and he said that most 18 year olds coming to the school are not quite as famous as Scotty. He said;
“I don’t know of anybody coming in so well known initially. Most 18-year-olds don’t have the kind of exposure that someone like Mr. McCreery has.”
Griffin went on to say that the college received a record number of applicants this year, with more than 20,000 students applying. He said;
“It’s our most competitive year for admission that we’ve ever had.”
While it’s not always easy juggling school and a career in entertainment, celebrities like Tyra Banks and Emma Watson have shown that it can be done. Go get em’ Scotty!
