Mrs Carter: Is this too fabulous or too risky?
It’s nice to keep up your looks while you’re pregnant, but there are some things that are considered to be risky business when it comes to mixing your beauty regime and pregnancy.
Doctors say that pregnant women should avoid certain things while pregnant, like shellfish or acne medication and one of those things that are frowned upon is dying your hair with products that contain ammonia, not only because of the likelihood of inhaling the chemicals, but also the toxins that touch your skin can transfer to your developing baby.
It has been roughly 10 years since Kourtney Kardashian has fooled around with her hair color and although she is pregnant, she decided that now was the time to give her hair a bit of a color boost. After concerns for the safety of her baby started surfacing from critics, Kourtney felt it was important to explain the whole situation, so that there would be a better understanding of the precautions she took before deciding to dye her hair. She posted a message on her official blog explaining the situation;
“I decided to change up my hair to try something new. I haven’t touched my hair color in over 10 years and thought it was time for some fun. Don’t even ask…why now after 10 years…I’m just crazy.”
“I did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor and took the proper precautions necessary. I highlighted my hair (which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant) and NOT to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain any ammonia. It is also recommended to be in a well-ventilated area as well as being at least in your second trimester, and I followed both of those rules. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I take caution in all the products I use all the time, but especially when pregnant.”
When it comes to the color of her hair, Kourtney is still undecided if she likes it or not. She wrote;
“I still am not sure how I feel about the color. I would say dark probably suits me best, but a change is always fun! At this point, I don’t want anything else on my hair besides sulfate free shampoo and conditioner.”
It can be difficult to find ways to keep up your looks while pregnant, but there are always ways to still feel beautiful without putting your baby in any danger. Like Kourtney did, always check with your doctor to find out what’s safe and what’s not before you do it.
