‘American Idol’ notes: Scotty McCreery, Haley Reinhart, and Erika Van Pelt

Heading for college!

There’s a good happening this weekend in the world of “American Idol,” but we (as always) have assembled a few highlights from across the internet to take a look at — beginning wtih this season’s reigning champ.

Scotty goes to college – After much uncertainty, we now know that Scotty McCreery is going to be heading to college in his home state of North Carolina.

According to CMT Live, NC State ended up being the singer’s final choice mostly thanks to their programs as well as his dad being a past alum of the university. This will keep him close to his Garner, North Carolina roots, and allow him to have an opportunity to transfer to Nashville later on if he chooses.

Scotty has done a fantastic job not letting himself become too unattached to his roots ever since finding fame on the show. He still attends high school, plays baseball with the team, and is planning to attend school moving forward just so he has another field to enter in the event that he ever needs a further education.

Behind-the-scenes with Haley – Just in case you want to become even more excited for the release of Haley Reinhart’s “Listen Up” on May 22, we have a new look exactly at what we can expect from the album cover.

In the video below, you can see the season 10 alum trying on a few different outfits and posing poolside. Haley also explains her love for retro clothing, and how at times she tries to live through the lens of a far earlier era — one that she wishes she grew up in at times.

There’s also a few clips from “Free” in here for all you music lovers.

Erika Van Pelt hits up “Leno” – Finally, both Erika Van Pelt and Heejun Han got the opportunity Friday night to perform with Rickey Minor and the band on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Unfortunately, this show did not do a great job at showing off viewres just what they did. The two singers performed to kick off breaks, and the video below really just shows off a few seconds of Erika’s “The Edge of Glory.”

Erika and Heejun also answered a question each about their “Idol” experience, whether it be getting a makeover or making Steven Tyler angry by being goofy.

As always, stay tuned for more “Idol” news!
