Megan Hilty has spent more than seven years dazzling audiences on Broadway with her gorgeous voice in hit shows like ‘Wicked’ and ‘9 to 5’, and now the massive success of her NBC hit series ‘Smash’ has made record labels start to stand up and take notice of what they’ve been missing out on.
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the ‘Smash’ star has signed a record deal with music giants Columbia Records, through the Sony subsidiary Masterworks and will help Hilty produce her very first album.
Masterworks is primarily known for producing classical music, but has branched out and has started signing artists like Wilson Phillips and ‘GCB’ star Kristin Chenoweth.
Hilty is joining ‘Smash’ co-star, Katharine McPhee, who already has a music deal in place with the Sony family. At this time there is no word on when Hilty plans to release her debut album or exactly what style of music she plans to create, but she has said that she is currently working on a few demos.
‘Smash’ has just been renewed for a second season and airs on Monday night’s at 10 p.m. on NBC, so if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, give the show a try – it’s a lot of fun and you won’t be disappointed.
