‘Smash’: Megan Hilty talks finale, season 2 and new show runner

She’s excited for season 2

When ‘Smash’ first came onto the scene viewers weren’t sure what to make of it since we haven’t had a really great Broadway type series since ‘Fame’, but week after week ‘Smash’ has continued to show everyone why it has staying power.

Besides the fact that ‘Smash’ has a solid story line, the network put together an all star cast that makes it easier for viewers to buy into what they are selling us.  One of the stars of the show, Megan Hilty, spoke to The Insider about the success of the series and how excited everyone is that the show has been picked up for a second season.  She said; “It’s amazing. I’m so glad that people are responding so well to it – but more than that, I love that people are being exposed to the theater community in this way.”

When it comes to the season finale, Hilty says that it will leave viewers wondering what’s going to happen next season.  She said; “It will leave you saying, “What could possibly happen next year?!?!” There’s no hint. It leaves you with a million questions and the need to see what happens next. So thank God we’re coming back to show you because when we shot it, we didn’t know.”

The original showrunner for ‘Smash’, Teresa Rebek, is leaving the series and as shocked as fans were to hear the news, Hilty was also blindsided when she found out.  Megan said; “I have no idea. Her leaving was such a shock, I found out by reading it online with the world. I haven’t quite processed it. I don’t even know the deets. I don’t know the scoop. But it’ll be interesting, that’s for sure.”

If you haven’t had a chance to check out ‘Smash’ yet, make sure you tune in on Monday’s at 10 p.m. on NBC to see what all of the buzz is about.
