We can now officially cross Fergie off the list of potential judges for “The X Factor” next season. While she was never really listed as being in serious discussions about the gig, her name has been floated around along with a number of other ones including Pink, Katy Perry, and Janet Jackson (who recently opted against taking on the job).
So why is the Black Eyed Peas member saying now? In an interview with MTV News, she confirms that her reps have spoken with Simon Cowell’s production team both this season and last — but as is the case with many stars, it’s all about timing and she does not believe she has enough to offer the contestants at the moment:
“I can’t commit all the energy that these contestants deserve. This is their career, and right now, I’ve got different plants in my garden that are going on, and that’s a really big tree that would take a lot of nurturing and energy. It’s just not the right time right now.”
The interesting thing is that Fergie’s decision comes at a time when her bandmate will.i.am is getting set to launch the British version of “The Voice” as a coach, and he has also guest-mentored the “American Idol” contestants with Jimmy Iovine on two occasions.
For right now, the consensus favorite to land a judging spot on Simon’s show is Britney Spears, mostly because we know the production team is in serious talks with her and salary seems to be the main thing keeping them apart at this very moment.
Do you really just want this judging charade to end already, or do you think this sort of ordeal is actually good for the show?
