‘American Idol’ notes: Scotty McCreery, Casey James, and season 11 finale

The newest headlines are here!

To kick off this week, the “American Idol” notes are dipping back into season 9, but also continuing into season 10 as well as what is currently going on now.

With this chronology in mind, let’s start with the past before we work our way into the present.

Meeting Casey James (again) – Even though we saw Casey for nearly every episode of “Idol” season 9, we somehow managed to learn more about him in the six-minute video below than nearly a dozen live shows. Why couldn’t the producers talk about this rather than just showing his shirtless audition again and again?

Casey’s self-titled album is set to hit stores on Tuesday, nearly two years after he finished his run on the show. The man clearly took his time, and based on what we’re hearing it seems to be worth the wait. It also may have benefited him to establish some creative distance as an artist from the show, since he can now focus on his music rather than answering questions about Simon Cowell and the failed Ellen DeGeneres experiment.

Voting begins for Scotty – Scotty McCreery is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards, and there’s some good news out there for all of his fans: voting is now open!

You can head over to this link if you want to cast a vote for the season 10 champ, who already has one of these New Artists honors to his name courtesy of the 2011 American Country Awards. He is up against Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes.

The show is set to air on Sunday, April 1 over on CBS.

Season 11 finale news – Will Joshua Ledet, Jessica Sanchez, or someone else walk away with the “Idol” title this year? It’s still not clear, but we can at least confirm when the finale is officially going to air.

On Tuesday, May 22, the final performance show is going to air at a special time at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Meanwhile, the final results show will air for (at least) two hours on the following day, where it will begin (as expected) at the same time.

As always, check back soon for more “Idol” news!
