When you consider what the ratings were for season 5 of “Jersey Shore” — even though they were down from past years — you still have to think that a season 6 for MTV is all but inevitable. After all, why would you do away with a show that is still the most-popular one on cable (outside of “The Walking Dead”) in the 18-49 demographic?
The real question about a season 6 has really all boiled down to one key issue — if you can get everyone to come back. While most of these stars would be silly to walk away from $100,000 an episode (which is what they earned for the past two seasons), there are two major issues at play here:
1. Snooki is pregnant, and it’s hard to see her living in a house full of people drinking, partying, and causing all sorts of trouble. Could she still be a guest star? Sure, but guest stars are far from permanent residents.
2. Pauly D has a successful DJ career now, in addition to a recording contract with 50 Cent.
When it comes to the former, Snooki has already said that her days in the “Shore” house are pretty much over — which makes the following bit of commentary by Pauly D (per MTV News) all the more interesting:
“I love summers on the Jersey Shore. I love it as a show, and I love it with my roommates. I wouldn’t do it without [them]. I gotta do it with them. I want all of them, and I want the Jersey Shore.”
It’s pretty clear that Pauly is not going to get “all of them” (at least not in a permanent role), so would he still come? So long as MTV wants to use most of the same people, we have to believe that we are going to be seeing more of the blowout and the GTL moving forward. As we’ve said all along, though, it wouldn’t hurt for them to case a few fresh faces after a season that really didn’t go anywhere from a drama standpoint.
Who do you want to see returning to the “Shore” next year?
