‘American Idol’ exit chat: Shannon Magrane laughs about Steven Tyler

Shannon finished in 11th place.

Even though “American Idol” had already lost a contestant for the past week in Jermaine Jones, they still decide to eliminate someone with the lowest number of viewer votes. As in seasons past, we learned that the boys are yet again getting favored by the voting public — and it led to Shannon Magrane being the one who was sent packing over Shannon Magrane and Erika Van Pelt.

Shannon spoke to reporters Friday in a conference call, and she ended up covering a gamut of topics from the other singers and trying to tackle Whitney Houston:

On if taking on big songs hurt her – “I don’t know, I don’t think so. It’s Whitney and Mariah and they are intimidating people to sing, but I don’t think it was negative because it was really hard to sing those songs and do really well. I did it in my own way and interpreted it in my own my way.”

On getting so close to making the tour – “It’s definitely really upsetting because I really wanted to go on tour, and this was something I wanted to do ever since I was a little girl … I got to stand on that big stage in front of millions of people. I’m hoping that I inspired plenty of people and I feel good about what I did.”

On spending her Spring Break on national TV – “Not many 16-year old girls can say that, and it’s definitely accomplishment I proud to be here.”

On if she thinks she will go back to a normal life after this – “You don’t! It’s hard because you’ve been in this lifestyle for this couple of months and it’s this giant bubble that you are in for a couple of months … there’s lots of people who know who I am now and they want to hear more from me.”

On Steven Tyler’s famous audition “hot, humid, and happening” comment – “My dad is definitely the most kind and welcoming guy, a ‘gentle giant.’ He took that as a joke, so he wasn’t mad about it at all since it made great TV … the legendary Steven Tyler said that about me on TV, and that made me laugh.”

On if she has any regrets – “I don’t really think that there’s much that I should have done different. I worked really hard and I got where I wanted to be. I really wish I could have gone on tour so I could have been with my friends all summer.”
