We have heard some rather strange rumors regarding “Dancing with the Stars” over the years, but we have a feeling that this one may go down as one of the strangest. Why? Because it involves a person coming on the show just days before the premiere.
According to People Magazine, “The Bachelor” winner Courtney Robertson is in talks with show producers about appearing on the premiere Monday night, but it is unclear whether she would just be in the audience or if she would actually be a contestant. If she does hit the dance floor, she would pretty much be tying Melissa Rycroft for having the shortest amount of time to actually prepare for a season. (Melissa was a replacement for an injured Nancy O’Dell, and she had America on her side after Jason Mesnick rejected her in favor of Molly Malaney despite first picking her at the end of his season.) In addition to the short turnaround here, what also makes it unlikely that Courtney would actually dance on the show is that we don’t know who she would be partnering with. Unless one of the current contestants has some sort of secret injury, she would need a new pro — and the only two options we can really think of are Louis Van Amstel (which would be unusual in that he is actually shorter than Courtney) and Jonathan Roberts (who has not been a part of the show in years).
There are still some benefits for both ABC and Courtney here that cannot be ignored. For Ben Flajnik’s new fiancee, this is a chance to show that she is not the evil mass-manipulator that “The Bachelor” made her out to be and could present her in a much kinder light; in addition, she would provide a dose of controversy that the current cast of “Dancing” does not have.
At the moment, ABC is not commenting on the rumor — but they don’t really comment ever on such matters pertaining to the show. It should be noted, though, that People as a source has close connections with Ben and Courtney — after all, Ben has blogged for the site all season and this is the sole publication to do an interview and photo shoot with the couple.
