‘NCIS’ season 12 spoilers: News on ‘Kill the Messenger,’ Tony Gonzalez guest appearance
Well, we’re starting to figure out more and more about why Tony Gonzales is appearing on the second episode of “NCIS” season 12. Not only is it a chance for the NFL star to try his luck at acting, but this is also more cross-promotion for CBS with their upcoming “Thursday Night Football” program. (Yes, it is strange that they are putting this much effort into convincing someone to try and watch football.)
This episode airs on Tuesday, September 30, and the title for the hour is going to be “Kill the Messenger.” We know that Gonzalez’s character is entitled Tony Francis, but that is really about it for the time being.
As for some other details, you can take a look in the attached synopsis:
“When a Navy Lieutenant is killed on his way to a private meeting with the President, the NCIS team must determine if the murder was part of a recent stream of muggings in the area or a targeted hit to keep intel secret.”
We cannot really sit here and say that this is the most-exciting episode based on description alone, but who knows? Maybe something is going to come out of here that surprises us. “NCIS” has a habit of that occasionally.
As for why Gonzalez is in particular the NFL star appearing, it is because he is working post-retirement for CBS’ coverage team. It’s a nice way to get a some further promotion for him in his role, and for the show to have a different sort of guest casting.

I’m guessing this guest star will be temporarily replacing either Gibbs or McGee who will have been injured in the premier, since these two are obviously going to be facing constant perilous danger in that episode (while Tony clicks the clicker!)
