If you want a great way to start your day (or afternoon or evening, depending on where you are), we have it for you now courtesy of Haley Reinhart.
In the box below, you can listen to the studio version of the singer’s first post-“American Idol” single “Free.” How is it? Well, it may be the best debut single from an “Idol” alum since what Adam Lambert and Kris Allen put out back after season 8. It’s soulful, insanely catchy, and well-produced to the point that it retro while still current enough to potentially make a splash on the radio. We’re also happy that Interscope and 19 Entertainment gave her plenty of time to actually work on this song rather than just forcing her to release it before it was ready last fall.
The best part of the song? That the lyrics are actually on par with the melody. It’s rare that we actually see an “Idol” song with so much thought and care put into every word. Ultimately, it’s really not much of an overstatement at this moment that we’ve listened to this song at least fifteen times since we first learned that it was online.
This single will be officially released on March 20, and Haley will be performing it live for the first time on the March 22 results show of “Idol.”
