Is Britney Spears really going to be joining “The X Factor” next season? While inquiring minds certainly do seem interested in knowing, Simon Cowell is staying quiet — at least for the time being.
The music mogul Cowell called in to “Good Day New York” this week, and clammed up (possibly for one of the first times ever) when asked about the possibility of the “Toxic” singer joining him and L.A. Reid on the panel. Why so silent? He really has a simple explanation for it in that the show does not yet have any deals locked in, and he really can’t talk about the future of the panel until there are some clearer details worth sharing.
What Simon did say that was particularly interesting, though, is that there are two new faces — a singer and an actress — who have emerged recently as contenders just within the past week. How serious are they? That’s what we really don’t know. After all, Simon and the producers consider dozens of names for these sort of gigs, and the vast majority of people we don’t even end up hearing about.
As for Britney, she has been offered $10 million in order to be a judge for next year — but salary seems to be the real hang-up here, as she is seeking double that and may consider a residency in Las Vegas if things don’t happen to work out.
Also in this interview, you can hear Simon talk a bit about the audition process, his hope to have both a male and female host this coming year, and while both Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul are gone from the panel.
What do you think the odds are that we actually end up seeing Britney on the show next season?
