If “The X Factor” really wants to recruit Britney Spears to be a judge on their show next year, the pop superstar is sending them a rather clear message — pay up.
According to The Wrap, the Spears camp is currently asking for $20 million if Simon Cowell really wants to see her judging some of his new young talent (in addition to taking them through some rigorous mentoring sessions), and this comes after initial reports suggested that Britney was offered a cool $10 million to be a part of the panel.
Before we talk about whether or not Spears is deserving, here are some numbers for comparison:
-Paula Abdul made $2.5 million for her role on the show last year, a paltry sum compared to what Britney is asking for.
-Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez scored $20 million for this season of “American Idol.” While you could argue that Britney is an even bigger star than J.Lo, “Idol” is a better-rated show and Lopez was signing her second deal.
Britney is also reportedly considering taking the reigns of a residence in Las Vegas similar to what Celine Dion has done — and if she chooses this route, we can very well expect to kiss the opportunity to make puns about Britney’s songs in relation to the show (“if I have to send somebody home, would you hold it against me?”) goodbye.
If Britney does indeed really want to be a part of this show next year, then we anticipate the two parties working out some sort of deal in the middle of what they are each currently offering. Initial reports suggested that a deal would likely get done this coming week, so it’s better to take the wait-and-see approach … for now.
Do you think Britney will end up joining the show, or is the money really too far apart in this situation?
