There’s a good many people out there that hate Russell Hantz. There are also a good many people out there who love him and think that he is the greatest player ever in the history of “Survivor.” It is apparently the strategy of A&E to try and capitalize on some of this polarization by giving the man his own show.
As you may have heard already, the program is called “Flipping Off” and basically features Russell and his brother Shawn (otherwise known as Brandon’s Coach-threatening family visit during “Survivor: South Pacific”) trying to orchestrate some big things in the Houston house-flipping business. These sort of home renovation shows have become increasingly popular since the recession hit, largely due to the fact that it’s a way for prospective homeowners to realize the sort of lucrative investment they can make just by fixing up a place and selling it down the road.
However, it’s going to take more than just a premise to make a good show — it also has to be entertaining (as in “Jersey Shore” before the cast members all liked each other). Russell’s program will probably provide plenty of TV moments, but we do have some questions already:
-Where in the house are they going to hide the immunity idols?
-Is Boston Rob going to be flipping houses for another team with his wife Amber?
-Is he going to try to fix up these homes with a group of young women who he will try to manipulate for the duration of the show, only to end up stabbing some of them in the back?
In all seriousness, we are interested in seeing what Russell brings to this show — after all, he’s more than played out on “Survivor” (almost to where his name incites groans) and it’s time for a change.
