‘American Idol’ notes: Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Phillip Phillips

Here’s the new edition.

We are hours away from the top 13 performing on “American Idol” … so with that, it only seems appropriate in today’s edition of the notes to look a little bit at the past and at the present, right?

Phillip’s the favorite – We’re going to begin this time with this season before actually working our way back, and this time we’re looking solely at odds. We’ve already said that Phillip Phillips is the one to beat for season 11, and online bidding site Bovada seems to agree. Phillip’s odds are listen as 7-2, while Jessica Sanchez is in second place with a 4-1 chance at walking away with the grand prize.

Meanwhile, E! News is reporting that at the Wynn Las Vegas, Hollie Cavanagh is actually the favorite with 4-1 odds. (Really, though, we have a hard time thinking that America will pick a female winner due to their history.)

Haley’s “Wasted Tears” – We have some more new music from Haley Reinhart! The song is called “Wasted Tears,” and she performed it while making a radio stop in Indiana. This is just an acoustic version and it could sound rather different in the studio, but we’re loving everything that we are hearing so far.

This song has a serious throwback vibe to it that reminds us a bit of Adele and Bruno Mars. The other thing that is almost as important as the song itself? The fact here that Haley seems incredibly relaxed and performs the song well despite spending the entirety of the track on a stool.

Scotty’s staying on tour – Despite still going to high school and even playing a bit of baseball, Scotty McCreery is finding a way to continue being a part of Brad Paisley’s nationwide tour for much of the upcoming year.
