‘American Idol’ alumni notes: Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen

Carrie’s album comes out April 1.

We have quite a few “American Idol“-related headlines for Thursday … and this time, we’re focusing entirely on some past contestants.

Carrie’s album cover – Carrie Underwood has officially announced that her upcoming album is entitled “Blown Away,” and it will debut in stores beginning on May 1.

As for the album cover, it’s mighty fierce — and it also is a bit reminiscent of Angelina Jolie’s Oscar pose. While we personally prefer some of Carrie’s cheerier covers (see “Carnival Ride”), this does carry with it a moody and atmospheric vibe that could translate to an album with a darker and more mature tone.

Adam goes acoustic – For those of you who love Adam Lambert acoustic performances, then this is going to be a bit of a treat for you.

On Tuesday, Adam made an appearance on “Kidd Kraddick in the Morning” in Dallas to promote new single “Better Than I Know Myself” along with his new album “Trespassing.” During the interview portion, Adam spoke out about everything from his album to the passing of Whitney Houston to what it was like being in the presence of so many stars at the Elton John Oscar viewing party last month.

At the end of all this (including some rather awkward jokes about people from Finland — otherwise known as the home country of Adam’s boyfriend Sauli Koskinen), Adam teamed up with his guitarist and began to sing. In one word, the performance was sublime.

The song hits iTunes March 26.

Kris Allen’s single cover – While Carrie is unveiling the cover for her new album, we have the first look at the cover for Kris’ new single “The Vision of Love.”

Unlike some of the other covers we have seen lately, though, there is really not much to talk about here. It’s really just due to the fact that it doesn’t reinvent the wheel — it suits Allen’s fan base perfectly, and we do like the lighting that is brighter on one side and darker on the other. The song will hit all digital download formats on March 26, and you can listen to the studio version below. (As we’ve said previously, it’s rather catchy and the lyrics are meaningful.)

Paul McDonald’s new music video – As for the season 10 star, he and wife Nikki Reed have released their video (via MTV) for “Now That I’ve Found You.” If you liked the song originally, you’re going to love it all over again here. Meanwhile, this is the sort of the thing that cynics are probably going to scoff at and say that they are tired of these two singing about how in love they are.
