When former ‘Growing Pains’ star Kirk Cameron expressed his opinions on gay rights issues many were shocked by what he had to say, but regardless of the backlash surrounding his comments, Kirk hasn’t backed down from his anti-gay stance.
During an interview with Piers Morgan, Cameron did not dance around the issue of gay marriage rights and said that not only is he not in support of gay marriage, but that is any of his children decided to reveal that they are gay he would not be accepting of it saying that it is “unnatural” and “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
After Cameron’s comments had a moment to settle, many began to speak out against the actor including the members of GLADD. Herndon Graddick, a spokesperson for the organization said;
“Cameron has the right to share his views, but as a result of GLAAD’s work, people of faith who support LGBT people are making sure their voices are louder. Thousands, including many people of faith, have shared the campaign and spoken out against Cameron’s remarks. Kirk Cameron’s statements are not only out of touch with the beliefs of most Americans, they contribute to a climate of hostility and falsely suggest that communities of faith are not accepting of LGBT people.”
Another person that is in support of equal gay rights is Cameron’s former ‘Growing Pains’ co-star, Tracey Gold, who changed her profile picture on Twitter to a photo of herself joining the NOH8 campaign. She said;
“I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all. #NOH8 #LOVE”
