When I first heard there was going to be a day 9 I was so excited and dubious at the same time. Being such a huge fan of the series since day 1 I wanted day 9 to be something special and for the most part it was until the end. I remember turning to my partner before the series started and saying these exact words I hope they don’t kill of somebody like Audrey or heller or end up with jack falling into the hands of the Russians and have a guess what they did exactly that not a good sign if you can predict something before it even starts. The writers and producers seem almost deliberately to find the harshest most gut wrenching ending to this amazing show which for me and a lot of fans I talk to getting a little tired. I loved this season and the new format with the 12 episodes made it fresh and snappier even when it looks like heller gets blown to bits at wembley stadium I had a sense he was ok and jack given his pardon and heller safe and sound in the next episode I thought the writers are on the right track here but it all turned in the last episode. I’m not asking for sunshine and rainbows but does it always have to end like this the show for me was always about the clock ticking and jack no matter what getting the job done and saving the day but now the no matter what becomes so stretched and pushed further and further out fans have come to expect a bad ending more so than a clever one and these writers are clever guys. I’ve heard rumours that when they do finish 24 forever they will kill jack off nice to know when it does actually come to and end I already know what’s going to happen
