Abby Lee Miller, star of the newest train wreck reality show ‘Dance Moms’, has been under fire for her unconventional way of ‘motivating’ the children in her dance company and it seems like the list of non-supporters is continuing to grow.
‘Dancing With The Stars’ pros Derek Hough and Mark Ballas are no strangers when it comes to facing the difficulties of pushing performers to give their best, but their techniques are very different to that of Miller. After watching a recent episode of ‘Dance Moms’, both Hough and Ballas took to their Twitter accounts to express their disgust for the way Miller ‘motivates’ her dancers, who are as young as six years old, by screaming and insulting them and hitting them with a foam bat when they step out of line. Hough tweeted;
“I’m sorry, but this ‘Dance Mom’ show is straight up abusive. … Kids Run!!!!!!! It ain’t right. Child abuse isn’t right. I’m livid right now. … I believe in discipline and a strong work ethic. But there is nothing productive about screaming and making little girls cry over being on the wrong foot.”
Ballas not only called the Lifetime program “embarrassing” for the dance community, but also said that Miller is “crazy”. He wrote;
“Watching dance moms… Anyone watch this show?? This teacher lady is crazy… Completely wrong attitude towards the kids, it embarrassing. I watched 4 15 mins & switched off, & only reason I wld watch is concern 4 the kids, she needs 2 B fired. it’s abuse u can’t argue with my or any of the dancers I work with record. And we don’t behave like that to children.”
This is not the first time that Miller’s practices have come under fire by a concerned celebrity. Last month Katherine Heigl was horrified after watching the show and posted a long rant about Miller on her blog calling it “demeaning, belittling, and downright unkind.”
