NBC’s ‘Days of our Lives’ reveals first gay kiss

Since ‘Days of our Lives’ first broadcast in 1965, fans have been glued to their television sets every weekday to find out what their favorite characters are up to as they fall in love, have their hearts broken and plot to ruin the lives of their enemies.
The daytime serial has tackled some fairly difficult topics over the years, but has rarely strayed too far from its main topics, leaving soap operas feeling very outdated and subsequently getting canceled. We have already seen soap opera giants like ‘All My Children’ bite the dust and in an attempt to stop that from happening to ‘Days of our Lives’ the producers have decided to update the series a bit and possibly even bring in a slightly younger audience.
On Thursday’s episode of ‘Days of Our Lives’ they will include a gay kiss for the very first time, and while this is not much of a milestone for regular broadcast television, this is a topic that hasn’t really been explored on day time serials. Entertainment Weekly reveals that the kiss will be shared between Will (Chandler Massey) and a stranger named Neil (Jesse Kristofferson) at a party.
While there has been some buzz about the show incorporating the gay story line, the show is bringing back Deidre Hall, which seems to be over-shadowing the first gay kiss.
What do you think of NBC’s attempt to modernize ‘Days of our Lives’? Do you think it’s too late? Leave us your thoughts.

Okay, Kristine, I’ll concede that the nipple sucking is over the top (I haven’t seen the episode, just a clip of “the kiss”). While Will’s storyline is at least pertinent, that’s just gratuitious. However it’s not the first time I’ve thought daytime went a little overboard with the sex scenes.

I too have been watching this since a little girl. I was super excited to see the gay storyline develop. The kiss was right on the spot. Not overly done but what you would expect from a torn up on the inside male going for the kiss but conflicted as this is his first gay kiss. It was done correctly. I am more than happy to see this storyline. I would be happy to share it with my kids when they are old enough. And i am hoping it will help others come to realize gays are not to be shunned and if you are gay then you are not alone.

Good by Days of our Lives!! I have been watching the show ever since I was a little girl, and I am still only thirty-two years old… But The way Days of our Lives handled this took it to a whole new level… But it’s not just the gay kiss, it’s maddison sucking on Brady’s nipples. This is day time television and they went too far!!! Having John and Marlena, Carrie Austin etc, be on the show helped the raitings they didn’t need to go the way the did today!!! it’s a shame, after all these years I was excited… it’s not about the gay, it’s about people full throttling making out!

My wife and I used to watch “Days” when we first got married, over 25 years ago. We stopped watching around the time everyone was getting killed off, then we discovered it was just a hoax. I happened across a blurb for the story line accidently the other day, so I decided to catch up and see what all the fuss was over. Let me first say, we’re Christians, and while we’re probably going to get blasted over this, I think the Will’s storyline is completely relevant. I’m not any more offended as a Christian over two guys kissing than I am over people committing adultery or having pre-marital sex, less so, actually. People who found this disgusting are ignorant bigots who need to take a gander at their calendars and note the year. If you want to pretend there’s no such thing as kids struggling with their sexuality then rent tapes of the Veggie Tales and let the rest of us evolve.

I have watched Days for 40 yrs raised my kids watching it also. I would hate to know I had children watching this filth now. Yes shame on NBC I will not watch another day for I have better things to do with my time. It’s a matter of what is right and what is wrong. Turned my stomach !

Are all Days fans so bigoted? Well, Pam and Sandra are definitely free to watch whatever they like. I think it’s GREAT that Days might finally be getting around to including LGBTQ storylines. Who knows how far they’ll actually take it, or if they’re manage to handle it with any tact at all.

I whole-heartedly agree with Pam. She stated almost word for word what I wanted to post. “Disgusting” “You’ve crossed the line” and “NO MORE DAYS FOR ME! ” I have been a loyal viewer since 1978 and was thrilled with the return of Diedre Hall, but I’m done watching Days forever. Shame on you NBC.

Call me old fashion but the show today was DISGUSTING! You’ve crossed the line. Typical of NBC…one bad decision after another. I can watch something elsewhere which doesn’t make my stomach turn. NO MORE DAYS FOR ME!
