Thanks for the excellent post. I don’t know what more they can do with the Mellie character next season. She’s only relevant as Fitz’s wife or as an obstacle (which hasn’t worked) to Fitz and Olivia. They should have left her power hungry and ruthless, but now she’s all, “if Fitz would just love me,” those words straight from Bellamy Young. Instead of saying I just need him to respect me, and we’ll make arrangements to be with the people we actually love, or anything to make her not seem so needy. All her actions in the future, no matter how horrible will be forgiven. I disagree, Kerry should definitely get the emmy nod, her character is synonymous with Scandal and vice versa. This season’s performance as the writing wasn’t as good as season two, but still worthy of a lead actress nomination.

... if Washington gets an Emmy nomination, it will be proof that the Emmy's are fixed.

Based on the writing this season, the shameless writers made it clear (while catering to the mainstream female, typically catered to audience) that the only one to be considered for an Emmy nod would be Bellamy Young for her role as Mellie.

Washington was done a great disservice by the Scandal writers who, at times, seemed antagonistic toward the former lead of Scandal (based on their horrible writing and choices that worked against everything we were told about this character, Olivia Pope).

It is a shame, that it hurt some of the writers so, to have the supporting, "mainstream" actress be as complex as the rest of the cast, where she couldn't be seen as a victim... society's typical label for her. It is a shame they allowed Bellamy's character to be the ONLY character given an "out" for past behaviors. She couldn't have been ambitious or goal-oriented like we all thought in the beginning (I used to love Mellie), NOW she had to be the victim of RAPE so that everyone else on the show could now be labeled as "bad guys", while she... "angelic and a victim".

Horrible decision-making by the staff and a horrible, horrible way to ruin the entire show. The show is ruined. It should get nothing from Emmy voters, but as a final slap to the face, they'll probably nominate Bellamy Young and not Washington... that is what this season set out to do... and they just might do it.
