Almost every network on the planet is trying to land Katy Perry for a gig, but it was the masterminds behind Fox’s hit comedy ’Raising Hope’ that were able to snag her for a guest role on the show.
A report from Entertainment Weekly revealed that the ‘California Gurls’ singer will be guest starring on the show as Rikki, a prison guard who meets Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) after she is arrested for participating in an Occupy Natesville protest . In real life Perry and Woodward are actually close friends, so it should help make the transition from singing to acting a little easier since Katy will be working with someone she knows very well.
When ‘Raising Hope’ creator Greg Garcia spoke about Katy joining the cast for an episode he joked that he hoped it would help Katy “get her singing career off the ground”. He said;
“Shannon told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor. Then she came in and did a terrific job. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground.”
Perry couldn’t be more excited to be working with Woodward and said that it will be fun to chill with her best friend. Katy said;
“A couple of weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when Shannon called me up and asked if I wanted to do something ‘fun’ for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin’ with my best friend. Greg was nice, but I hope he’s not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by type-casting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging.”
Perry also posted a photo of herself and Woodward from the set of ‘Raising Hope’ on her Twitter account and wrote: “I hope I don’t get type-cast.”
The episode guest starring Perry is called ‘Single White Female’ and will air on March 6th on Fox.
