Mrs. Carter: For the second time in two seasons, “Hart of Dixie” finds itself in a particularly interesting situation.
Last season, the news came out that Jaime King was expecting her first child with husband Kyle Newman, and this led to the character of Lemon taking a brief absence in the middle of production. However, her pregnancy was never written into the storyline, as the Lemon character did not have a specific love interest at the time that would have allowed for the story to make sense.
Now, the show has itself in a similar situation courtesy of Rachel Bilson. The actress, who plays the star of the show in Dr. Zoe Hart, is expecting her first child with longtime boyfriend Hayden Christiansen (at least per a recent Us Weekly story). This is obviously great news for the actress, but in terms of the show, it could make things interesting. Supposing that she is around three months along, that would make her due to give birth in fall, which is right in the middle of production.
As more details about the new season become available (including episode count), we’ll start to understand more about what the show plans to do is Bilson is in fact expecting. Can you have a show without the woman whose romances excite and frustrated us every week? We feel like it’s possible they could have her character missing for a few weeks, thanks mostly to the simple fact that there are so many other great actors in the cast to hold down the fort.
For those of you wondering about whether or not the pregnancy could be written into the show, we doubt it. We haven’t see Zoe with anyone since Joel, and her and Wade are not together yet.
