‘The Carrie Diaries’ casts Stefania Owen as Carrie Bradshaw’s sister

Will you be watching?

Fans of ‘Sex and the City’ are skeptical about the new CW project called ‘The Carrie Diaries’ which follows the iconic character of Carrie Bradshaw before she meets up with her soul mates Charlotte , Miranda and Samantha in New York, but producers are moving along with the pilot and have already cast the role of Carrie’s little sister.

‘Running Wilde’ star Stefania Owen has landed the role of Bradshaw’s 14 year old sister, who is said to be a bit of a handful as she acts out by dying her hair and getting arrested to garner any attention. she can get  At this time Owen is the first cast member to be signed to the project, leaving fans waiting to find out who will be filling Sarah Jessica Parker’s shoes as Carrie Bradshaw.

It will be a difficult transition for fans of the HBO series to buy into ‘The Carrie Diaries’ since ‘Sex and the City’ is all about Carrie’s relationship with her three girlfriends who are absent from this story line.  It’s also going to be hard for viewers to see anyone outside of Sarah Jessica Parker playing Carrie, so if the CW is hoping to bring in the ‘Sex and the City’ audience they might have a bit of a problem.

The other thing that will be interesting to see is Carrie Bradshaw’s family since she only ever mentioned them once in the ‘Sex and the City’ series when she revealed that her dad left when she was very little and never mentioned a real sister (but created a fake one once when she was embarrassed about acting like an jerk on the phone with Alexander Petrovsky). Learning about Carrie’s family now raises a lot of questions about why they are not included in Carrie’s adult life – they never even attended her 300 guest wedding to Mr. Big in the film, so what happened?  Did they pass away?  Did they have a huge fight and she cut them off?  One would think that if there was a  tragic or heavy reason that Carrie no longer speaks to her sister and mother that it would’ve come up at some point during ‘Sex and the City’, so it leaves the question of how the CW is going to tie the two series together?

Are you going to tune in and check out ‘The Carrie Diaries’? Do you think the show will run into trouble without Sarah Jessica Parker?  Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
