Fans of ‘Once Upon a Time’ were beside themselves with anticipation all week for last night’s episode so that they could finally get some insight into Rumpelstiltskin’s life in the fairytale world and see if there really is a softer side to one of televisions biggest villains.
‘Once Upon a Time’ introduced Belle last night from the fairy tale ‘Beauty and the Beast’, but instead of showing us the beast from the original story they adapted the tale to fit Rumpelstiltskin in the role of the beast. While we were skeptical at first if it was really going to work, but the show pleasantly surprised us.
For the first time in the series we were given a story where a character did not seem to co-exist in both the fairytale world and the real world – so while we fell in love with Belle in Rumpelstiltskin’s world, it was interesting to see that she was nowhere to be found for most of the episode in Storybrooke leading fans towards a shocking twist of events.
We also learned that the evil queen kept her part of the bargain with Rumpelstiltskin and let him remember who he really is in Storybrooke, making him think that he has the upper hand in their twisted relationship, but the viewers now know that it is the queen who is really in control. Luckily for viewers, the episode offered up an opportunity to see Belle (Emilie de Ravin) return in a future episode which seems to be what fans want. The romance between Rumpelstiltskin and Belle has become the first real romance on the show that fans can really root for since no one seems to want to get behind a cheating Prince Charming and a home wrecking Snow White.
ABC rolled the dice on Sunday night and aired the new episode of ‘Once Upon a Time’ up against the 54th Annual Grammy Awards and as far as ratings go ‘Once Upon a Time’ surprisingly held its own and came in second to the Grammy’s during that time period.
