I think this show earned the right to have a second season. It faced a number of factors that (speculating) contributed it to its fluctuating ratings. (1) It was aired later than what FOX advertised it as, making it mid-season instead of the start of it. People rumor that this resulted in it not getting additional episode orders. (2) It went through TWO hiatuses; before its second hiatus it significantly rose in ratings. (3) It was one of the only drama scripted shows on broadcast airing against the Olympics, non-stop. No help or advertisement at all. And the controversial (4) The early episodes were not aired in production order, resulting in some confusing character building for some viewership. The decision is either from FOX or Abrams, I highly doubt it was Wyman as he worked like mad to reshot episodes so that they would fit with the new televised order.

It has been said around various parts of the net that there is potential for it, if it just gets itself together to tell a story. This will work if Wyman has control of it.
