“American Idol” obviously wanted to create plenty of drama in closing their episode Wednesday night with Symone Black falling off of the stage after her Hollywood Week performance — but it’s hard to imagine that they envisioned it created as strong a reaction as it has.
Following some outrage from fans curious as to whether or not Black was really in any peril after suffering what seemed to be a head injury, a spokesperson for the show confirmed that she is in fact okay, and was treated on site right away for dehydration by an on-set medic. Ultimately, she was able to continue the competition without a problem.
This news comes as little of a surprise, as executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said during a conference call Tuesday that he was shocked how unprepared singers still are for Hollywood Week after all these years, and the biggest mistake many contestants make is either staying up too late or not drinking enough water to compensate for the long hours, the added stress, and the strain the competition puts on your vocal chords.
As for whether or not Black ends up advancing, we hope so — her actual performance in front of the judges (which you can see to the left of this article) was rather fantastic.
Are you hoping that Symone is around for a while?
