‘American Idol’ alumni notes: Kelly Clarkson is no. 1, Scotty McCreery goes for the gold

His single has gone gold

With the new ‘American Idol’ showcasing some of their best talent last night on Hollywood week, including one of our favorites Heejun  Han, we thought it would be a perfect time to catch up on some of the past fan favorites and see what they are up to this week.

Kelly Clarkson reaches number 1 – Kelly has started 2012 with a bang as she plays out to sold-out stadiums on her ‘Stronger’ tour and had the honor of singing the National Anthem at the most watched Super Bowl in history.  Now Clarkson has another feather to add to her cap as her latest single ‘Stronger’ reached number 1 on the Billboard 100 yesterday finally pushing Adele’s ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ out of the top spot. In a world of auto tuned dance hits, it’s great to see people like Kelly and Adele snagging the number one spot for a change.

Scotty McCreery goes gold – Scotty’s career is nothing to sneeze at either.  Since winning Idol last year the country singer has become a superstar over night as his album ‘Clear as Day’ has already reached platinum status and he’s touring with country legend Brad Paisley.  Yesterday McCreery posted a message on his Twitter account announcing that his single ‘The Trouble With Girls’ had gone gold.  He wrote; “HUGE thanks to all the fans and country radio! “The Trouble With Girls” is now GOLD! Hope you’re enjoying the music! Love yall!”

Lauren Alaina gives back – Lauren is busy touring with Jason Alden at the moment, but last season’s runner up has found time to give back to what matters most – the children. With the help of Josh Turner and Kip Moore, Lauren will be performing at the Country Cares event in Little Rock tonight to help the kids at St. Jude’s Hospital.

Jennifer Hudson may talk to defense team – Jennifer has had a lot of success since leaving Idol, including a shiny gold Oscar under her belt, but she has also been faced with tragedy when three of her family members lost their lives from the hands of her estranged brother in law, William Balfour.  As the April trial closes in reports are surfacing that the defense attorney is looking to sit down with Hudson and speak to her before the case is heard just in case she is called to the stand during the trial. Hudson was not a witness, but did exchange text messages with her mom around the time it all took place.
