What everybody? Maybe some of you, but as far as I can tell from reading many reviews, blogs, and fansites, the majority of SPN fans still care the most about the Winchesters and care mostly about what happens with THEM.

Well, you can always watch Misha on all the various video clips he puts out on Twitter.

But even if they are in the most episodes, their screen time is spent mostly in teen angst or playing supporting roles to whatever supporting/recurring character is featured that week.

Jared and Jensen are supposed to be the leads! Of course they should be in the most episodes!

And that’s exactly my point. But instead of giving any and all important or interesting stories to their supporting and recurring characters, my feeling is that the writers should be giving their best and most important/engaging stories to the Winchesters, the two LEADS, the ones who are supposed to be what the whole show is about. The supporting and recurring characters can have their compelling side arcs as well, but in the end, their plotlines should serve to enhance what should be the main Sam and Dean story.
We have been getting MOTW stories that have nothing to do with the bigger Winchester arc, and Crowley, Cas, Metatron, and the angels. And next week introduces the spin off. These last few episodes of the season should be focusing on and developing the story of the possession aftermath, and how and what the Mark of Cain is doing/will do to Dean(and Sam) but like you said they’re barely paying any attention to it at all.

Dean and Sam’s stories as they stand right now have been played out, and there is nowhere to go with them if the writers continue to refuse developing their characters in any real way. The same conflicts happen over and over and over. Maybe it’s just me, but if the writers refuse to do anything but write codependent angst and drama between Sam and Dean, I’m glad to have interesting stories involving Cas, Charlie, and others to fall back on. Otherwise there would be NOTHING new on the show at all. They had a huge opportunity to really run with the Mark of Cain storyline this season but for whatever reason they’ve barely focused on it at all.

Spread those 65 episodes out over nearly a full 6 seasons, though. An average of ~10 episodes per season really isn’t a whole lot out of a 22/23 episode season.

So for Season 9, I’m predicting that it’s going to be all about Dean and the Mark of Cain. Abbadon is going to get killed by Dean, and the First Blade will finally have consumed him in some way, which will be the main part of the traditional Supernatural cliffhanger.

As for the Heaven story, it can go in any direction but Metatron is probably going to be killed. I make a point of noting that anytime a ‘big bad’ says “you can’t defeat me” to the Winchesters, they tend to… get defeated a few episodes later. Metatron said that very recently. But what will happen to Cas is completely subjectible. He could become the leader of the remaining angels, or all the other Angels could die making him the sole Angel left.
