Simon Cowell talks ‘X Factor’ shakeup and Beyonce rumors (Video)

Simon blames himself for big expectations

Simon Cowell had some pretty big expectations when he decided to bring his hit UK show ‘The X Factor’ over to the US, boasting that he would bring in 20 million viewers per episode.  When he failed to reach that mark, people began to call the show a failure, even though it brought in a respectable 11-12 million viewers.

After the controversy concerning some of the judges decisions and their wishy-washy behavior that resulted in fan favorites getting booted, Cowell decided that the show needed some changes if season two was going to be a success.  ‘X Factor’ host Steve Jones and judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were all cut from the show leaving room for some fresh faces. In a recent interview with Extra, Simon said that Paula took the news well, but that Scherzinger wasn’t exactly receptive to the shake up.  He said;

“I would’ve liked to have kept [Paula]. She was very gracious and I said that to her. She understands it’s business; it’s never personal. I don’t think [Nicole’s] mad. I think she’s disappointed.”

Although Simon felt that his choice of judges may have hurt the show, he also feels that his comments about bringing in 20 million viewers helped make the show look worse than it actually was.  He said;

“It’s only because I opened my big mouth and said we were going to get 20 million [viewers]. If I hadn’t said that, everybody would be saying the show was a huge success.”

So who will be replacing Nicole and Paula?  Simon has said time and time again that he wants Mariah Carey, but that she is not on the list because she would not be able to make the time commitment. He has also said that Katy Perry would be “fun” while someone like Madonna would be “great”, but “expensive”.

Cowell also addressed the rumors that he has offered Beyonce $100 million a year to come on the judging panel saying that it is “nonsense”.  Cowell said;

“I have no idea where this rumor came from.  It’s complete nonsense. The budget of the show is $100 million dollars. No one’s going to pay $100 million for someone.”
