Mrs. Carter: The real surprise with this story is that Amy Poehler and Will Arnett did not actually get divorced back when they initially separated.
This is why Will filing for divorce this month is such a story again. He filed the paperwork in the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month, citing the typical irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. When it comes to custody of the couple’s two children, everything appears to be down the middle. Arnett (who stars on “The Millers”) is seeking joint custody. The two both live in Los Angeles, where Amy also shoots her show “Parks and Recreation,” so at least there will not be too much traveling all over the place for the family.
Prior to the separation back in 2012, the two were married for nine years and have long been successful in the world of comedy. Poehler is a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member who transitioned right into her hit on NBC, while Arnett has guest-starred and appeared in a number of shows, including “Up All Night,” “30 Rock,” and “Arrested Development.” He has acted alongside many of Amy’s good friends and the two remain part of many of the same comedy circles.
The two are each going to continue to have high-profile TV jobs for the next couple of seasons, as both “Parks and Recreation” and “The Millers” were renewed for additional seasons. One other bit of weird irony here is that they both actually air at the same exact time in Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern. (Briefly, that was not the case earlier in the season.)
